About

Katie Scheibli (b. 2001, Canada) is an artist currently living in London and is primarily a painter. She studied Fine Art in Scotland and graduated from The Glasgow School of Art in 2023.

Her paintings explore a dynamic interplay of mark-making that is both energetic and assertive. Vibrant pixelated structures play across the surface, creating a sense of movement and rhythm. By drawing on familiar visual languages, she evokes both excitement and harmony, producing playful and engaging paintings while exploring the physicality of paint as a medium.

She explores Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's concept of 'flow,' drawing a conscious parallel to her painting process and the immersive experience of working in detail. This prompts the consideration of time and change, as the layered structures in her larger works encourage viewers to retrace her decision-making process and the gradual evolution of each composition.

Her paintings merge rigid geometric structures with expressive gestural brushstrokes. The contrast between these visual languages reflects the coexistence of digital and analogue ways of seeing and making. The geometric forms date the work to a society shaped by technology, not as a critique or celebration, but as an acknowledgement of the environment in which it was created.
